Franconia Sculpture Gardens is located just outside the Twin Cities in Taylor’s Falls, MN. Franconia Sculpture Park is the pre-eminent, artist-centered sculpture park in the Midwest. Founded in 1996, Franconia provides physically and intellectually wide-open spaces that inspire new ways of thinking through access to contemporary sculpture, installation, and land art. Located in the scenic St. Croix River Valley of Minnesota, Franconia operates a 50-acre outdoor museum, active artist residency program, and a depth and breadth of community arts programming for a diverse and engaged public. Weisman Art Museum in Minneapolis is where you’ll want to go for modern art. This free museum is a teaching museum at the U of M and a leader in the world of modern art, integrating the perspectives of local culture and history. You can’t miss the unique exterior facade of curved metal structures by world renowned architect Frank Gehry. Chaska Town Course is located just a short 30-minute drive from downtown Minneapolis, this Arthur Hills-designed course stretches over 285 acres and has gained national attention despite being a municipal course owned and operated by the city of Chaska. Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove, MN, is located just 20 miles from downtown Minneapolis, was founded in 1996 by Duncan MacMillan and designed by Bob Cupp and John Fought to provide accessible and high-quality golf to players of all skill levels. Rush Creek has hosted several high-profile events, including the LPGA and the 2004 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, and most recently the 2021 Minnesota Golf Association Amateur Championship. Manny’s Steakhouse: This steakhouse is the quintessential destination for a high-end dining experience in Minneapolis. The restaurant is known for its elegant white-tablecloth setting, where corporate executives close big deals and couples celebrate special occasions. Summit Brewing Company: Summit Brewing is to Saint Paul what Surly Brewing is to Minneapolis. It’s the oldest beer establishment in the city and one of the most popular breweries in Minnesota. Summit Brewing has been pumping out ales and lagers since 1986 and is a giant in the craft beer scene. The brewery’s signature EPA is the one drink you should definitely try.
Surly Brewing Company: The brewery is known for its wide selection of craft beers, including their flagship beer, Furious, which is a bold and hoppy American IPA. The spacious beer hall offers a lively atmosphere with communal seating, an outdoor patio, and a stage for live music performances. The menu features a range of pub fare, including artisanal sausages, gourmet burgers, and hearty sandwiches, all designed to complement the flavorful brews.
Barrel Theory Beer Company: situated in the lively Lowertown area of St. Paul, Barrel Theory is renowned for its charming brick-walled taproom and distinctive selection of beers. Their offerings range from kettle-soured ales to fruity stouts and even colada beer, making them a go-to destination for adventurous beer drinkers. As a result of their growing reputation, Barrel Theory has become one of the most sought-after breweries in Minnesota, attracting a loyal following of beer enthusiasts.
Tattersall Distillery: Minnesota’s largest micro distillery—so large, in fact, that they exceeded the state’s production cap and have moved the bulk of their operations to Wisconsin, although they still operate a cocktail room in Northeast Minneapolis. Tattersall distills a wide range of spirits and liqueurs, which is reflected in their comprehensive cocktail menu and tasting flights—I’m a fan of their gin and aquavit. Indoor reservations are available online, and seating on the small patio is first-come, first-served.
